Decorative mask, wall decoration, in the shape of the face of a karasu tengu, a mountain goblin in with a crow's beak (and wings). He wears a little crown of a flower between clouds. The back is shallow and there are no openings around the eyes or nose.Dense and heavy, patinated wood, perhaps keyaki (paulownia) wood, with double inlaid eyes in glass. Japan, Meiji period, early 20. H 10.2 x W 5.25 in. Few shallow, old splinters in back, small restored spot in back (at height of one of the eyes), few dents and scrapes on the front. All in all very good and stable condition.
